World Archery Categories

In South Africa, we tend to compete in three types of Target Archery:

In Outdoor archery, World Archery recognise the Recurve, Standard Bow and Compound Divisions
In Indoor archery, World Archery recognise the Recurve and Compound divisions, and for
Field archery, World Archery recognise the Recurve, Compound and Barebow divisions (the World Archery Field Round is not really shot in South Africa).

In addition, nine classes are recognised;

  • Women
  • Men
  • Cadet Women
  • Cadet Men
  • Junior Women
  • Junior Men
  • Masters Women
  • Masters Men
  • Para-Archery Classes

Para-achery is open to athletes with a physical disability (including spinal cord injury, cerebral palsy, amputee…) in three functional classes (Open, Standing, and Wheelchair)

The combination of a class and a division is called ‘Category’ as shown by the table on the right.
