Western Cape IFAA Summer Indoor Championships 2016
13th February, Bowime Archery Club
The first Western Cape IFAA Indoor event for the year, which is also the last qualifier event in the 2015/16 colours cycle, was held on the 13 February. Bow-time club was the host to twenty seven archers from various bow styles who were eager to get the year going with the official IFAA indoor event for the new year.
Some of our top-guns were there to show their current form, and the names included Craig and Jackie Hurn, Albert Sorgdrager, Estelle Jacobs, Phillip de Lange, Luther de Koker, Andrew Harris and a few more. We also had four Recurve archer, but we missed our other Recurve friends from the Southern Suburbs of Cape Town.
Due to the number of entries, the event was divided into two details, with a morning and afternoon session allocation.
During the morning session some good scores were posted and the archers nervously waited for the second session scores to see how they had placed. By about four in the afternoon, the final scores cards were collected and finally everyone could see how they fared compared to the others in their style.
In the Ladies Freestyle Compound, Estelle Jacobs had a slight loss of concentration and dropped one point to finish on 299 as the AFFU winner, followed by Jackie Hurn with a 290 and Erin Barkway (De Wet?) in third place. In the men Bowhunter freestyle (unlimited) Phillip de Lange again showed top form to finish with a full score of 300 (53 x’s)
In the men Unlimited Freestyle Luther de Koker posted a full score of 300 (39 x’s) closely followed by Albert Sorgdrager on 299, and Craig Hurn third on 298 (49x) after a count of x’s showed he just beat Gerhard Munnik’s 298 with 45 x’s and Niekie Kock’s 298 with 41 x’s.
The Recurve archer’s top score came from Jolette Grobler with a 271; and the surprise of the day was a full score of 300 (43 x’s) from Ruan van Staden, a Visitor in the AMFU style. We hope he joins SANAA asap now that he has seen what he is capable of.
